A mincing machine comprises a power driven feed screw 13 and at least one rotatable cutter member 34 associated with a fixed perforated plate 14, the cutter member 34 being driven in a manner adapted to rotate it at a different speed than the feed screw 13. The feed screw 13 is supported by roller bearings 19, 19SP1/SP while the cutter 34 is supported by a shaft 27 which is journalled within the feed screw. A common motor or separate motors may drive the screw and cutter via suitable gearing or pulleys to rotate the cutter faster. A variable speed drive may alternatively be used to suit different materials or produce a variety of minces. The cutter 34 may be inside the perforated plate 14 or may be outside it (41), Fig.2 (not shown), with an additional cutter (39) inside the plate 14 attached to the end of the feed screw 13 and driven therefore at the same speed.
