1286959 Preserving grain E ALLMAN & CO Ltd 10 March 1970 [11 March 1969] 12723/69 Heading A2D [Also in Division B1] An apparatus for applying a preserving liquid to grain comprises a mixing chamber, a primary conveyor for supplying grain to an inlet in the upper part of the chamber, a secondary conveyor arranged to receive grain falling downwardly from the inlet and to convey the grain across the chamber to an outlet at a horizontal location spaced from the horizontal location of the inlet, and spraying means adapted to provide a spray of preserving liquid downwardly on to grain on the secondary conveyor, whereby the secondary conveyor mixes the liquid with the grain during its conveyance across the mixing chamber. The spraying means may be a spraying nozzle or a spraying bar. A suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 1, wherein a mixing chamber 9 is provided with a primary auger 1 and secondary auger 11. A removable plate 29 has mounted thereon holders 31 for spraying nozzles 33 (Fig. 2, not shown). The preserving liquid is preferably propionic acid.
