Sepn of non-ferrous metals - from roasting pyrite ore residues using air-chlorine mixts

The non-ferrous metals are separated from the roasting residues using a two stage process in a fluidized bed comprising treating the residue with an air-Cl2 gas mixt. in stage 1 at about 200 degrees C, and in stage 2 at about 400 degrees C, the gases from the high temp. stage being recycled for treating the residue in stage 1 while the solid material is transferred from stage 1 to stage 2. The two processing stages are placed either side-by-side or one above the other in a fluidized bed. After treatment the non-ferrous metal chlorides thus formed are separated from the Fe oxide in known manner.
