Membranes as in 1798340 for an in-vitro model of the gastrointestinal tract for simulating natural absorption processes have as lipoid component of the impregnating fluid a dioctylsodiumsulphoscuccinate; and pref. membranes are impregnated with a 97:3 mixture of lauryl alcohol and dioctylsodiumsulphonsuccinate. The test-solns. are circulated by a tubular pump through the two chambers of the diffusion vessel separated by the membrane which serves to maintain the pH-gradient between them and allows the differential passage of various medicaments - organic acids and bases of widely differing constitution.
