A spring loaded metal ball, in a dielectric housing with lead out connections to an external detector, is placed in contact with the material strip and acts as an electrostatic charge store whose output is in the form of electro-magnetic oscillations. These are converted by the detector unit into a directly displayed electrical quantity proportional to the moisture in the material.
