1390238 Bell type furnaces WELLMAN INCANDESCENT FURNACE CO Ltd 14 March 1973 [6 April 1972 19 Jan 1973] 15859/72 and 2826/73 Heading F4B In a bell type furnace for annealing sheet metal coils stacked on a base 10 within concentric covers 14, 16, a heat exchanger 22 is movable into or out of the return duct 36 for atmosphere gas circulated by a fan 20, and a seal ring 80 of resilient material is disposed between fluid cooled chambers 64 and 72 respectively attached to the inner core 14 and the base 10. The ring 80 is made of rubber or similar elastomer and is attached to chamber 64, which latter incorporates a sand seal 62 for a web 56 depending from the outer cover 16. The heat exchanger 22 is withdrawn into a side chamber 24 during the heating cycle of the furnace by a motor 42 and worm and nut gearing 44 acting on its support rails 40. Coolant supplied and returned through flexible pipes 48 while heat exchanger 22 is in its advanced position cools the circulating atmosphere gas and thus cools the stacked coils.
