1398518 Making rotor assemblies LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 5 Sept 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 45953/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] A method of making a rotor assembly for a dynamo-electric machine comprises engaging a face commutator former 11 with a rotor shaft, the former being of insulating material and generally in the shape of a spoked wheel, apertures 15 being defined by the hub 12, spokes 14 and rim 13, inserting armature conductor ends into respective apertures 15, depositing metal in the apertures by metal spraying to build up commutator segments, electrically connected to the armature conductors and machining the working surface of the commutator. An apertured backing disc through which the conductor ends extend is engaged with the former surface adjacent the armature and the segments are of copper. The former is moulded from synthetic resin and the surfaces of the apertures may be roughened or formed with keying protuberances.
