The frames are guided on blocks 18 mounted on prestressed tie rods 3 connecting upper and lower stand parts 1, 2. Springs 36, 37 are provided to allow alignment of the rolls under rolling pressure. The frames may be supported by jacks 20 during adjustment. Edging rolls (44), (45), Fig. 3 (not shown), are mounted on the stand parts to size the flanges of the beam. The beam is rough rolled by one or more passes through a stand (50), Fig. 4 (not shown), and then moved transversely to a roller table (54) for a series of passes through the roll pass A of the universal mill (55) the vertical roll separation being reduced between passes.
