An apparatus, such as a cinematographic projector, for use with cartridges containing rolls of strip material and in which the cartridges may be selectively and/or automatically moved in sequence into operation position, the projector also being capable of use with individual cartridges containing rolls of strip material. In operating position the strip material is automatically moved out of the cartridge by means of a stripper mechanism and directed to an automatic threading mechanism of the apparatus, and then rewound into the cartridge after the strip material has been displayed.
