Production of visible images on a surface contg. an oxide of a 3d-transition comprises (a) lowering the ambient temp. below the Neel-temp. of the transition metal oxide in such a way that it exhibits low electrical conductivity (b) depositing a uniform electrostatic charge layer on the surface (c) selectively raising the temp. of specific parts of the 3d-transition metal oxide above the Neel-temp. in correspondence with a pre-determined pattern, so that those parts exhibit high electrical conductivity and the uniform electrostatic charge on the surface is selectivity dissipated to form a latent electrostatic image of the pre-determined pattern. (d) development of the latent image to produce a visible image.
