Gas laser appts. for molecular CO2 or CO comprising a stagnation chamber, means for feeding into the chamber nitrogen and heating it to at least 2500 degrees K under a press. of at least 15 atm. and a supersonic speed nozzle through which a gas stream is led into an optical-resonance space with expansion so that press. and temp. drop to the ambient conditions, is improved in that Ar or He (as a catalyst) and CO2 (cold) or CO (heated in mixt. with N2) are introduced into the nozzle parallelly to the main N2 stream. This method allows to reduce the final temp. of the gases, and increases the laser amplification.
