摘要
In a process by which the origin of a paint can be identified, one or more substances which are not normally present in the paint formulation and which contain one or more cations which cannot be eliminated by calcination of the paint, are added to the paint in an amt. sufficient to give 1-100 ppm of the cation with respect to the liq. paint; for identification, a portion of the paint (liq. or dry) is calcined and the ash is analysed gravimetrically for the cation(s). In cases where paints or painted products are guaranteed for a certain time, the manufacturer can ensure that no substitution of his product has been made when claims are made under the guarantee. The identifying additives are added in such small amts. that there is no risk of their affecting the paint quality (cf. GB1, 233, 001, where 0.1-2 wt.% of spectroscopically identifiable additives was used).
