1462087 Switch contact arrangement SIEMENS AG 18 March 1974 [26 March 1973] 11981/74 Heading H1N An electric switch contact 11 is supported on a flat ferromagnetic member 9 (or 10) which carries the current to the contact and which has a conductor (13 or 14) welded to it at a point 15 (or 16) to form a current loop therewith, so that when the contacts of the switch open the arc will be electromagnetically deflected from the contact on to the ferromagnetic member in a direction away from the weld, i.e. towards the ceramic arc-quenching elements 2. Preferably the surface of the ferromagnetic member has a conductive layer, e.g. electroplated copper, on the contact-carrying surface. In the embodiment, dome-shaped moving contacts are carried on a spring-biased bridge 8, which may also be ferromagnetic. A bi-metallic trip 5 and short-circuit trip 6 are provided in series with conductors 13, 14 and terminals 17, 18. The ferromagnetic members 9 and 10 may be provided with deformable retaining lugs 19 and each fixed contact assembly may be fabricated as a unit component (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown).
