Mono- and dialkyl-resorcylates of formula (I) are pred. in high yield by reacting the corresp. dihydroresorcylates with org. N-haloamides. (where R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl; R2 is 1-3C alkyl esp. methyl or ethyl; and R3 is methyl or ethyl).
