An asphalt aggregate pavement is impregnated by coating it with an oil-in-water emulsion, the oil phase contg. 2-25 wt.% of an elastomer in an oil in which the elastomer and asphalt are mutually soluble. The oil has an initial b.pt. =300 degrees C., is free of asphaltenes and substantially soluble in n-pentane. Prods. have improved binding props. and are useful in the construction of roads.
