Cyclone for degassing liquids - especially liquid sodium for use in sodium cooled fast nuclear reactors

The cyclone is conical and the dia. reduces from the bottom upwards. The liq. is fed tangentially at the bottom forming a potential vortex. The force tending to separate gas bubbles to the centre increases as the liq. rises to the narrower portion of the cone. The gas is removed at the top centre and the degassed liq. is removed from the circumference at the point of smallest dia., pref. at a short cylindrical section.
