Line balance network for coaxial cable - consists of constant H.F. impedance and RC coupling connected in series

The balance network is meant especially for frequencies from about 500 kHz and upwards. It presents a two pole network which imitates the characteristic impedance of a coaxial line in a widest possible frequency band. The network is used mostly with measuring by a pulse-echo meter on coaxial cables. In this respect it serves just as well as a terminal impedance as in a bridge network circuit as a reference constant for the theoretically ideal characteristic impedance curve of the coaxial cable. The balance network is characterized by the RC coupling consisting of a cylindrical insulating tube with a high dielectric constant whose inner and outer sides have a resistance layer with a thickness greater than the equivalent conducting layer. To this coupling another, of known type made from concentrated switching elements, is connected.
