Electroslag remelting furnace for large tonnages - simultaneous casting of two blocks of different size and shape

This large-scale installation consists of two rectangular pillars with a portal. Each pillar has two horizontal traverses on slides and all four can be moved up and down independently. On each end of the two upper slides are four electrodes, making a total of 16. The two lower slides carry the moulds upwards and incorporate both coolant channels and electrical connections for the moulds. Melting proceeds in the conventional manner but, due to this construction, the electrodes mounted on the inside of the pillars can be used in the one mould. A container may be used for holding the pool of metal and a stationary mould placed to one side of the container; the molten metal runs over the sill into the mould as the container travels upwards.
