Interchangeable mass spectrometer ion source - can be switched from chemical to electron surge ionisation, with appropriate ionisation housings

The mass spectrometer affords switching over from chemical ionisation to an electron surge one and for this purpose the ion source has a chemical ionisation housing and an electronic ionisation housing with differently dimensioned openings. The chemical ionisation housing is shiftable into an ionisation space which can be used alternately for chemical or electronic ionising process. The electronic ionising housing may b in a form of chamber surrounding the chemical ionisation housing, while permitting its insertion and retraction. In its retracted position the bottom of the chemical ionisation housing forms a closure for the inserting and retracting opening of the electronic ionisation housing.
