The drive, for conveyor belts, has two asynchronous motors working in parallel and linked over gears to the belt drive shaft. The first motor drives a tachogenerator which indirectly regulates its speed and together with a speed monitor controls the switch-in of the second motor which may act as a brake. The speed of the second motor speed is unregulated. The second motor acts as a generator or brake when the two motors fall out of synchronisation. The drive system has a relatively low power consumption and is compact and cheap.
