Irradiator has a frame for suspension from a ceiling with UV lamps and at least one UR radiator on it, and at least one of the UV radiators is at an oblique angle to the vertical through the frame. Preferably the axes of the UV radiators lie on the surface of a cone; there may be 4 UV radiators uniformly in a circle around an IR radiator, whose axis passes vertically through the apex of the cone. The unit is more compact and gives uniform irradiation intensity over a larger surface. Preferably the radius of curvature of the frame sections which consist of two components forming a cross-like shape, as 30-60, are, 48 cm., in the central regions.
