The sealing system is intended for compressors of the type comprising a rotary multi-edge piston in a housing. The piston is provided with radial sealing strips at its edges and axial sealing strips at its end faces, two axial seals always engaging one connecting element carrying the edge seal. The axial and radial sealing strips as well as the connecting element are in a material with low thermal expansion which is not easily deformed and has good characteristics for running without coating in an emergency. The contact surfaces of strips and elements are covered with a low-friction material. The base material of strips and elements may be sintered metal and the low-friction material may be a very thin layer of modified poly-tetra, fluoro-ethylene seamed by adhesive, sintering, riveting, screwing or other means.
