A spacer suitable for various technical apples. or for bolstering or cushioning cargo in transit to protect same from damage by impact or sudden dislodging, is a closed-cell, homogeneous foam panel provided with knubs, which latter may be in form of truncated cones. (The panels may consist of polyethylene foam is suitable (opt. cross-linked), and be mfd. by vacuum-forming. The prod. has elastic, impact-absorbing characteristics; is bulky yet uses relatively little material in its mfr.; and may also be used in irregularly shaped spaces. Th knubs may protrude on only 1 or on both sides of the panel. They may be of different heights, and may be unevenly distanced from one another. They may be connected by ribs.
