Thermoplastic articles having improved surface properties are prepd. by moulding a compsn. contg. a powdery thermoplastic polymer (I) and 0.5-15 (1-10) wt.% (w.r.t. wt. of (I) hardenable additive, (II), which consists of reactive monomers and their prepolymers and is liquid at the melting- or softening temp. of (I). Moulding takes place with heating of compsn. at 25 (10-20) degrees C/min. during linear part of temp.-time curve after beginning of melting or softening of (I). Compsn. pref. also contains 0.01-5 wt.% (w.r.t. (I)) hardening agent. Simple, cheap process leads to permanent improvement of surface properties. (II) emerge out of moulding surface and are hardened on it. Inner side of surface layer is combined with inner layer of moulding. Boundary is uneven, with surface layer extending into moulding and anchored in it, leading to improved adhesion, coating, hardener, resistance to chemicals and electrical properties.
