Clamping arrangement for heat exchanger - plate wedges vertical tubes onto tapered nozzles on horizontal headers

A heat exchanger with a set of vertical tubes (1) secured between rectangular section horizontal headers (2) has the ends of the tubes fitting over nozzles (4) projecting from the headers, and passing through a flat intermediate plate (3) attached to the header by bolts (11) level with the joint region. The nozzles are tapered and the tube ends are forced over them, clamped there by the tapered holes through the intermediate plate. Alternatively these holes are clearance holes for integrally tapered clamping bushes. In another design, tapered clamping bushes are attached to the joint side of the intermediate plate.
