Universal milling machine comprising a base frame (2) and vertical column (1) with a machining head (5) carrying cutting tools (I, II) and drive motors (8, 9) capable of moving horizontally and vertically on the axes (Y1) and (Z1). A workpiece support table (3) is mounted on the machine surface (11). The top face (14) is supported by a semicircular section piece (13) carried in a correspondingly shaped cradle (12). The surface (14) can be tilted 45 deg. in either direction and can carry heavy loads because of the large bearing area of the cradle. An intermediate pad (11b) permits the table (3) to be rotated about its central axis. If the table is moved to the end of the support (2) and suitably tilted, a large clearance is available between the table surface and the cutting tool.
