Centrifuge bowl filter sheet support for fibrous suspensions - esp. massecuite, providing non-blocking filtrate flow channels

Support for filter sheet, used to line the inside of the bowl of a drying centrifuge is sandwiched between the filter sheet and the bowl surface and is perforated to allow filtrate to reach the bowl surface. The support is made as an open mesh structure, e. g. plastic moulding, to fit the contours of the bowl interior, and comprises a set of straight, longitudinal bars crossing a series of transverse arcs, the bars and the arcs being flush on the face supporting the filter sheet while, on the opposite face of the support, the bars project beyond the arcs so that only the bars rest on the bowl surface leaving channels between adjacent bars to allow filtrate to run the full length of the bowl. Device is used in filtration processes using drying centrifuge filters, partic. for filtering suspensions of fibrous matter, e.g. massecuite in sugar refining. The clear flow passages between the longitudinal bars allow fibrous matter to be carried clear in streams of filtrate, so the risk of blockage is reduced and less prodn. time lost.
