Joining of concrete reinforcing rods - involves mild steel screwed adaptor formed onto ridged end of high tensile reinforcing rod

A mild steel coupling piece (3) for use in reinforced concrete construction is bored to receive the ridged, high tensile reinforcing rod (1). The other end of the coupling piece has either a male or female screw thread (4) (6) (7). The end of the rod is placed in the bore and by the application of pressure, the adaptor is formed onto the rod, gripping on the ridges (5) and giving high pull-off resistance. Rods may be joined via the coupling pieces by the use of male or female adaptors, as required. Special connector pieces may be used to connect two male threaded or two female threaded couplers together. The connector piece has a hexagon nut in the centre to enable tightening with an open ended spanner.
