The method is for measuring the bulk flow or speed of a gaseous flow by means of an ion jet produced in a measurement duct (4), the ion jet being created by an electrode (3) whose plane is perpendicular to the direction of gas flow (9) so that the ions are emitted in a direction of gas to the direction of gas flow. A discharge corona may be used as an ion source and two conducting electrodes (1, 2) placed in the measurement duct may be used to measure the current produced in the direction of gas flow and the opposite direction by the ions. These two electrodes are perpendicular to the gas flow and symmetrical w.r.t. the ion source.
