Charge image carrier comprises an electrically conducting substrate (I) with an insulating coating (II) and then a photoconducting coating (III) which can be charged both negatively and positively and discharged by exposure. (I) can consist of a metal foil, glass with a conducting coating, e.g. of SnO2, or conducting paper. (II) should be 1-30 um, thick and (III) 1-50 mu m thick. The carrier is produced by coating (I) with (II) and then with (III), using a dispersion of a photoconductor contng. sensitiser(s) in a binder soln. which does not dissolve (II). After drying, the carrier is conditioned. The carrier is used for electrophotographic recording, esp. for re-enlarging microfilms. The carrier has approx. the same electrophotographic characteristics for both negative and positive charging.
