1413580 Coalescing element BRUNSWICK CORP 13 March 1973 [17 March 1972] 11915/ 73 Heading B1D An outward-flow element for coalescing oil to facilitate subsequent gravity separation from oil-water emulsion comprises a perforate tube 16 open at inlet end 24 and carrying flanges 12, 14 between which are an inner winding of twisted multifilament nylon yarn 20 and an outer winding of twisted multifilament polypropylene yarn 22, both windings being impregnated with oleophilic resin such as wood rosin. The element is wetted with oil similar to that to be coalesced prior to use. Details of yarns are exemplified and the polypropylene yarn may be crimped. Flow rates are so arranged that coalesced oil 26 can float upwards against downflow of water.
