Chloride ions are removed from aq. acid solns. by deposition as cuprous chloride, by simultaneously adding copper particles to the soln. and bubbling molecular oxygen into the soln. from outside and distributing it through the soln. in gas bubbles whole maintaining the pH at =3. The chloride ion concentration can be reduced to very low values with only slight losses of copper as cupric ions.
