The carriage may have opposed sets of supporting wheels, each set being engaged with an associated one of the guides, and alternate wheels of each set being offset so that the wheels are located in two rows, one row supporting the carriage and the other opposing forces applied vertically upwardly to the carriage. The panel may be supported on the carriage by gripping devices D each comprising a plurality of pivotally interconnected levers and having a supporting roller for supporting a panel and a compressing roller adapted to be urged towards the supporting roller, the compressing roller being movable between its gripping position and a retracted position by a pneumatic cylinder. The panels may be of compressed wood shavings, chips or other particles and the cover layers of resin impregnated paper. The upper surface of table T may be lined with a sheet TSP1/SP of velvet, felt or other material which is such as not to scratch or damage the surface of covering m placed on the table.
