1382696 Solvent refining oils TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 Sept 1972 [30 Dec 1971] 44154/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division G3] In a unit for refining oil using at least two solvents of different economic values, the ratio of the respective solvent flows is controlled in response to a comparison of the instant value of the ratio of refined oil flow to solvent mixture flow with an immediately previous value of this ratio. The object is to ensure the most economic use of the solvents. The system is applied to a refining unit illustrated in Fig. 1 (not shown), and may be combined with the system for maximum production described in Specification 1,336,485 (Divisions B1 and C5). The solvents used are water and N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone. Alternatively the invention could be applied to the phenol refining process, dimethylsulphoxide extraction, duo-sol extraction and sulpholane extraction.
