In an appts. for the separation of heterogeneous impurities from industrial water circuits, to purify the water for re-use, in which the level of the water in the appts. remains constant, a concrete separating vessel with a productive inner lining, a sloping bottom and a gas-tight but removable cover are provided together with an inlet at the height of the water level, an outlet in a zone above the bottom but below the water level. and a discharge pipe with shut-off valve running from the lowest posn. of the bottom and carries a discharge pipe also incorporating a shut-off valve at the water level. Permits the removal of insoluble materials e.g gases, liqs. such as oil, or solids of sp.gr. less than, e equal to or greather than that of water, economically in a plant which is easy to maintain.
