The roller shutter consists of hollow slats (6) of plastics material, connected to one another by U-shaped plastics material, connected to one another by U-shaped plastics inserts (1) which are pushed into the ends of the slat. The shutter then passes between parallel guides (8) at the sides, and can be pulled through these guides by rotating the shutter roller which may carry a tooth (4) which fits between the inserts and raises them as it rotates. The arms (4) of the U may be bulbous to give a gripping effect. In another design, studs project outwards from the inserts, and the roller carries a slotted arm through which the stud passes, so that the arm rolls the slats on the roller as it rotates.
