The coupling can be connected and disconnected under load. A typical use is between the output shaft of an electric motor and the input shaft to a compressor. The coupling can also be used on a heavy vehicle for the hydraulic torque converter or as synchronising coupling for an automatic transmission. The first part of the coupling can slide along the shaft but cannot turn on it. The second part cannot turn on the second shaft but can move radially on it. It is designed as a threaded sleeve and its axial movement is controlled by limit stops. The shaft is designed to guide the sleeve which is designed to mate with a muff coupling with conical facing surface. The first part of the coupling is a threaded collar with a spring controlled reverse movement.
