A reflector is provided with a lamp, which radiates ultraviolet light of high intensity, predominantly within a range not dazzling to the human eye. The objectionable remaining components of the light, emitted by the lamp, are absorbed by a filter-system. The source of light is a mercury vapour lamp. The device makes traffic-signs, including street-lines and arrows, easily visible, even in bad visibility conditions and over a considerable distance. The reflector is also for aircraft landing lights on aerodromes, and can be combined with a polarising filter on the aircraft windscreen.
