Drill for veneered or plastics-coated clipboard comprises an advance mechanism (5) mounted height-adjustably on a column (4) and in which is secured the drill (6). The drill is fixed to the workpiece (17) with the tool axis perpendicular to the material surface above the hole to be drilled, by means of a clamping device consisting of a stop member (10), spindle block (11), spindle (12) and handle (13), optionally using a rule (18) with divisions corresponding to the drilling spacing. The clamping device is movably mounted on a base plate (1) with a central marking in the form of a cone tip or roof surface which engages in corresponding grooves in the rule, and of which the imaginary extension perpendicular to the stop member intersects with the tool axis.
