The bottling plant includes a rotary crown cork applicator machine with a cylindrical head which is forced downwards to press the crown cap onto the rim of the bottle neck below, this head terminating in a collar with a side entry for the crown caps as they are delivered through a supply tube alongside, this tube terminating in a bend with a horizontal end, so that the cap is delivered sideways into this entry. This action is assisted by a fine, high pressure water jet which is switched off and on to synchronise with the action of the machine, and which delivers sterilised water. A drip trough carries awaw the excess water.
