The liquid counter for volumetric measurement of a flowing liquid has a rotor (2) arranged within a housing (1) and rotated by the flow, so driving a counting mechanism. The rotor has holes (3) in its surface whose centre axes form an angle to the rotational axis of the rotor. These direct the liquid flow into a hollow space within the rotor, from which it flows out again at the rear. The rotor may be arranged within a separate space or a cartridge within the housing to reduce losses through gaps between it and the housing. The angle of the holes ensures that as the liquid flows a torque is applied to the rotor.
