Belt conveyor plant for long distance conveying includes a belt incorporating over its whole width and length steel inserts and guided along the conveyor by troughed idlers. Along edges (1) of the belt where embedded tension transmitting steel inserts are not provided are arranged rollers (5) which are mounted at predetermined spacings along the belt in top and bottom run of the conveyor and guided on rail (7) pivoting in vertical plane and attached to the conveyor structure. The edges (1) of the belt are provided with textile or wire mesh inserts or with metal plates for attaching to the belt straps (8) carrying the rollers (5). The rails (7) in top and bottom run on the conveyor for guiding the roller (5) are separately attached to a holder (9) movable mounted on the conveyor structure.
