Dust suppression, eg. in mining - by application of an aq polyglycerol soln to dust forming surfaces

Dust-suppression is effected by applying esp. 0.5-20 (2-10)% aq. solns. of polyglycerol (I) on dust-forming surfaces. Pref. 50-800 (200-400) g/m2 (I) are pref. applied to surfaces to be treated. (I) can be prepd. by glycerol polycondensation in presence of alkaline catalysts. Neutralisation is not required for use. Salt-caused corrosion can be prevented by filtration or centrifuging or by ion exchanger desalination. Used for (i) bonding coal dust in mining; (ii) bonding flying dust in cement- or lime-filling and (iii) at sporting events, for bonding dust and solidifying the ground. (I) dissolves quickly and readily; spray-devices used are easily washed out with water; (I) is non-toxic, non-phytotoxic, non-corrosive in use.
