The member 4 may be shaped to provide a quenching chamber 115 which may contain cooling fins or a honeycomb or grid 116. To relieve excess pressure in the space 26 a relief valve 82 may be provided in an overflow duct 76, 77 in the body of the nozzle 4. Gas is admitted to chamber 26 through valve 43 and may be pressurized further by movement of rear wall 42.
