The base-coupled RS and D flip-flops have (in addition to the general circuits described in 2451579) a third npn transistor (To) whose collector is earthed, whose base is connected to the collector of the multi-emitter transistor and whose emitter is connected to both the emitters of the multi-emitter transistor (T1) in the first amplifier stage. The multi-emitter transistor has a collector/base gain which is less than the gain of the transistor (T2) in the second amplification stage. The advantage lies in simplicity and the system is capable of use at high frequencies.
