The machine consists of a board (10) mounted on a sloping base (12) so that the board is inclined at a small angle to the vertical. A knife blade (20) is fixed parallel to the plane of the board and inclined at an angle of about 20 deg. or 30 deg. to the horizontal. The board is mounted on the base (12) so that the gap between the board (10) and the blade can be adjusted to allow the blade to cut slices of different thicknesses. The food stuff is sliced by pressing it against the board (10) and pulling it over the knife blade (20). This design enables hard or soft fruit or vegetables to be sliced with equal ease.
