A system for production of short lengths of a simple or tubular hose type paper or foil strip in which the strip is first cut into sections longer than the requisite length and subsequently recut into shorter appropriate dimension sections, has the longer end sections collected directly at the end installation of the machine which is used to cut up the paper strip. The pile is collected lateral to the input direction and then fed continuously through a rotary knife to be cut up into shorter sections. A high throughout rate is achieved and at the same time the cutting accuracy is also maintained at a high level.
