A discontinuous wide angle optical system for a light receiver. Windows admit light into a room from one or several directions with respect to a certain point on a central line, and at the same angles to this line. The optical system comprises a spherical part (11) at the base of a pyramid-like facetted reflector (12), with a facet for each incident light direction. The reflector (12) and the spherical aprt (11) are symmetrical with respect to the central line, so that the spherical part acts as a positive lens for the light from all directions, and focusses it on an image plane in a diaphragm (16) on the spherical part (11).
