The lathe drive, including running headstock spindle, transmits the broaching pull, using lathe change gearing for speed variation. The chuck (7) holds a driving screw (21). The slide (3) post (6) carries a nut (22) and holds the broach (4) anchor bolt (5a) in a vertical slot (5b). A tail post (8) supports the broach in a vertically adjustable (A) guide (11). The broach adjusts in height independent of the drive. A workpiece (W) holder (12) likewise adjusts. Screws (14) set another broach guide (13) and the work holder at a common height. In an in-line pull design a screw works within the hollow spindle, the workpiece rotating on a plate as in normal turning.
