Permanently crimping acrylic filaments - by exposing one side to temp of up to 400 degrees C for up to 1 second

Acrylic yarns are permanently crimped by exposing one side of the yarns to the action of a contact surface heated at 180-400 degrees C during a time interval of 0.05-1 sec. Yarns contain at least 50% by wt. of an acrylonitrile linear polymer from 10-60% by wt. of residual moisture and from 4-20 % by wt. of residual solvent. Wts. are referred to dry wt. of the yarns. Dry yarns having a predetermined residual moisture and solvent content can be crimped successfully.
